Why Am I Bloated After Oats
Oats are the poster child of healthy breakfasts. For your stomach they're a disaster.
Why it happens
Oats contain beta-glucan — a soluble fibre that can be fermented by gut bacteria and produce gas in sensitive people. They also contain avenin, a protein similar to gluten that some gluten-sensitive people react to. And depending on how they're processed, many oats are cross-contaminated with wheat. The reaction also depends on how the oats are prepared — raw oats are significantly harder to digest than cooked ones because the cell wall structure is intact. Overnight oats left uncooked are particularly problematic for sensitive guts. Even the type of oats matters — steel cut oats digest differently from rolled oats from instant oats.
How Normal finds it
What this means
Normal found the raw-versus-cooked oat pattern in 3 weeks. Same food. Completely different reaction based on preparation.
The point is not that why am i bloated after oats has the same cause for everyone. It is that your body leaves a trail in ordinary days: what you ate, how you slept, how stressed you were, how fast you moved through the day, and when the symptom showed up.
Normal is built to catch those patterns over time, so you stop guessing from generic advice and start seeing what reliably changes how you feel.
