Why Am I Bloated After Dairy
You've eaten dairy your whole life and it was fine. Now it makes you bloated and you don't know what changed.
Why it happens
Lactase — the enzyme that digests lactose — naturally declines with age in many people. But lactose intolerance exists on a spectrum. You might tolerate some dairy fine and react to others. Hard aged cheeses have almost no lactose. Milk and soft cheeses have significantly more. Yoghurt is partially pre-digested by bacteria. Your reaction to dairy isn't all or nothing — it depends on the type, the amount, and what else you ate with it. Without tracking which dairy products cause symptoms and which don't, eliminating all dairy is unnecessary.
